if i buy a 300-something piece of equiptment for playing video games, i shouldnt be at the manufacturer's mercy constantly.
I know companies can hide behind the whole "oh its for your safety" schtick, but lets be real; they're scared that "unauthorized" will hurt how much they earn in royalties and licensing fees.
Back in the 80s/90s, this was harder to enforce in some way; lockout chips were only useful until they were cracked. Nowadays, if somebody finds an exploit that can run unsigned code, nintendo/sony will patch that shit.
Yeah, i know "nobody is stopping me from doing what i want with the hardware". Its worthy to note that Nintendo has actively tried to patch all possible vulnerabilities in the switch so far, and leaked documents even reveal internal strategies devised to deal with 3ds hackers. (
If nintendo is so scared about unofficial services impacting their sales, then they should strive to create a better offering instead of using their position to stop smaller developers.
TL;DR fuck you nintendo, ill install whatever i want on my hardware i paid $400 for.

It's because of this kind of attitude companies tend to have against homebrew that I typically wait until after the system is discontinued to jailbreak it (ie: 3ds, Wii, Vita). It's a shame too, since I think the modding scene for consoles tend to be some of the coolest stuff
