it was soooo goood
it definitely lived up to the first one
i need to rewatch it to catch all the things i missed/forget
jim carrey was great again, and idris elba worked better than i thought it would for knuckles
the fact the movie had a wedding subplot is so fucking funny to me
my favourite part about the movie is that a lot of it looked like a really good video game cutscene. the set design and the cinematography was very gamelike and i really liked that. i especially noticed this while they were in the temple.
what did you guys think

Re: [spoilers] sonic 2 discussion thread
I lost my shit at Super Sonic during my first viewing. that entire third act gave me goosebumps.
honestly the film's pace kinda felt like it came to a screeching halt near the end of the wedding subplot (and also during the Siberia dance-off). that being said i absolutely love that that subplot was used to establish GUN, i genuinely didn't see that twist coming, and the way it happens is honestly really funny.
I was honestly shocked by how much game lore carried over; i totally expected Super Sonic to look completely different (over fears of the guys that own dragon ball suing I guess?), I was totally expecting the Master Emerald to completely replace the Chaos Emeralds as the sole macguffin, and I was totally expecting GUN to just be a background/cameo element for fans to point and recognize 'the thing'. I'm so glad all three of these things weren't true, especially now that the 3rd film plus a spin off series has been confirmed.

i love how they adapted set pieces from the games; the way they used Ice Cap and Labyrinth fit SOOOO well, and the Sonic vs. Knuckles scene in front of the Master Emerald did the original game so much justice.
also that entire 3rd act; its soo fluid, like i love how in-sync sonic tails and knuckles are when they start taking down Eggman (like Knuckles throwing Sonic and Tails just catching and carrying him)? just.. god. that entire scene, it totally gave me gigantic 'Sonic Heroes' vibes in how they use their abilities together.
i'm really looking forward to how they handle Shadow's backstory; theres no way Gerald Robotnik can't be involved. I hope they aren't too afraid to branch out from Sonic Adventure 2's plot, theres def a lot they can do, especially with the new canon/lore established (which I'd also love to see fleshed out further); that being it would be absolutely insane if they used Live and Learn in that film, i'd probably scream.

i forgot to reply to this yesterday but OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!! the movie was so fucking good, it was done so fucking well and i love how much game stuff theyre putting in. lorum user @michaelbaldwin said this in the car but he is so right: we're so used to movie adaptations taking a ton of creative liberties and putting their own "spin" on beloved stories, but what makes these movies so good is that there's hardly any "spin" at all. they're literally just making sonic LOL
i mean obviously some things are different just to make it make sense in context, but they keep so much of it the same that its just so satisfying for fans to enjoy. i love it so much and i cant wait to see it again
