bailey's epic food taste test

so about a month or so ago i switched bailey (my cat btw) to an all wet food diet (because she doesn't have very many teeth left and would always throw up unchewed dry food), as well as switching her wet food type. i decided to switch the type of wet food because i was worried about her potentially having a food allergy, since she recently had a pretty severe ear infection (often allergy related) and i don't think either of us wanted to deal with that again. so for the past month, she's been eating pretty much nothing but this whitefish wet food and some seafood medley treats from time to time.

well all of a sudden, starting a few days ago, she started eating significantly less and throwing up more. last night and this morning she barely even touched her food. she still seemed hungry though, since she would still eat treats and was drinking more water than usual, but for some reason the whitefish food just wasn't agreeing with her anymore. she never really loved it to begin with, and often i'd have to convince her to eat it with her seafood treats. i actually ran out of them last week and haven't gotten any since unfortunately; i figure that's probably part of the issue.

SO: here's where it gets exciting. i decided that i would just pick a bunch of different tuna and salmon flavours of wet food since she's definitely still a fish enjoyer and make sure that they fit her allergy and calorie criteria too, and just let her pick one herself. i welcome you all to bailey's epic food taste test.

ROUND 1:
BFF tuna + bonito VS Natural Balance salmon + green pea
BFF tuna + salmon VS Tiki wild salmon
BFF tuna VS Weruva wild salmon

i will be posting an update imminently. i really really hope it's just a matter of bailey not enjoying the other food and not her being sick or something.

Round 1 has now come to a close. the winners are:
BFF tuna + bonito
BFF tuna + salmon
BFF tuna

my method for deciding the winner of each matchup was determining:
1) which one of the two on her plate she went to first,
2) which one she finished most quickly,
3) which one she ate in bigger bites, and
4) which one she licked most clean.

BFF tuna + bonito / NB salmon + green pea was a pretty close call at first since she went for the NB salmon + green pea first, but she ate the BFF tuna + bonito in way bigger bites and finished it off first before going back to the other one. I think she was mostly just hungry from not really eating all day, which would explain why she had so much of the NB salmon + green pea before switching over.

the BFF tuna + salmon / Tiki wild salmon plate was a very close call too especially since she finished the Tiki salmon first, but she definitely ate the BFF tuna + salmon in way bigger bites and also licked that side the cleanest. this was also the closest matchup since both sides of the plate contained salmon.

The last one wasn't really a contest at all. she ate the BFF tuna completely and in huge bites before even trying the Weruva wild salmon, and she even left some on her plate. maybe this was from being full since this was her last plate, but it could've been because she just didn't really like it that much. wish i could ask her.

evidently, miss ma'am seems to be a tuna gal. i was honestly a little shocked by these results since i always thought she was a bigger salmon fan than a tuna one. thankfully though, this does pretty conclusively mean that she just did not like the whitefish food she was on before. and thank god for that. round 2 will begin later this evening so as to let miss bailey rest and digest.

ROUND 2
BFF tuna VS BFF tuna + salmon
LOSER VS BFF tuna + bonito

needless to say, we have a very exciting round ahead of us, folks. i'm deciding to leave the final round to tomorrow morning since i do have to give her something for breakfast and like a third of each of the round 1 winning cans have been eaten so far. i don't want to throw her tummy off too hard cause she is a little bit sensitive.
