i was trying to get to twitter but my search bar autofilled to twitch and when i opened it it was a critikal stream on the homepage. i saw he was using this weird browser so i googled "moistcritikal browser" and found out that its a browser for GAMERS. its called opera GX. i wasnt gonna download it but then i watched a review and saw that it had like, resource throttling???? so i immediately downloaded it LOL, i have such a shitty computer and i always have 500 tabs open so my browsers always take up so much fucking ram and make my computer super slow. but now i can cap it at a certain value and if it ever reaches the cap, it tells me which tabs are using the most RAM and i can close just those ones
the other cool thing is that it lets u have "workspaces" which are like separate browser "windows" but within the same actual window, u just switch between them on the sidebar. its fucking sick because up until now, i always have Brave open with like "recreational" stuff (twitter/dragcave or whatever) and Firefox open with school stuff (because if i have twitter in another tab i always get distracted, i have to have it in another window. and i find firefox was more minimalist which was better for school. BUT ITS SUCH A MEMORY HOG). its literally solved two problems in one because now i can use less RAM by only having one browser open, but i can still act like my school stuff is in a separate window.
it also has some cool stuff integrated into the sidebar but i havent really enabled much of it just because i wanna minimize distractions but its still pretty cool
OH, AND I FORGOT TO MENTION it has a built-in adblocker and a lot of control over cookie-usage, which makes me feel good because ive been reading a lot about privacy online (for a class lol) which has made me care a lot more about how my data is used. I noticed the adblocker wasnt 100% effective on one website (didnt really test very many), and it would still show the ad banners but with nothing in them?? so i just installed ABP anyway lol and now everything is gone. so idk if that means the ad blocker isnt actually that good but i tihnk its nice that it has one by default.
anyway i kinda rolled my eyes at the idea of a "gamer browser" at first but im actually really enjoying it so far; visually it looks awesome and has a lot of customizability (that ive yet to really mess with). lots of options for cool colour schemes, and most of the "gimmicks" are totally optional which i also appreciate (it even has sound effects LOL which i thought was interesting but i ended up turning them off). personally i love the sidebar design!! its different but really useful.
idk if this is old news or not, maybe everyone knows about this browser but i just discovered it and thought it was cool so i thought id share

tbh ive been a bit wary of opera ever since they bought out yoyo games and shifted gamemaker studio over to a subscription-only model. that being said this does sound really cool, i might have to check it out if its on linux.
