happy free advertising for bell day!!
i hope everyone got their brownie points for posting a filter on their story to show their support for ppl struggling with mental illness! (even tho they would probably dip out on any of their friends who started showing symptoms that weren't convenient for them, but who cares as long as ppl who view their ig story know theyre a good person right??) i hope everyone also made sure to give bell lots of money today, so they can donate the money everyone generates from free advertising instead of dipping into their billions of dollars of income. 5 cents is so generous! haha lets talk

I've never been a fan of those filters that people put on their facebook profile pics to show their "support", I just never knew how to word it. Like, if you actually care about the thing you're putting on profile, why not actually try and make a difference instead of hiding behind a mass produced filter? I dunno, it just always rubbed me the wrong way

it's just virtue signaling. 90% of things posted to social media in general (ESPECIALLY for trends like this) are empty cries for attention, and in this case people are just bandwagoning to feel included. most of them don't even think about it, and don't really give a shit about mental health. a lot of people obviously mean well, but i really wish those people who actually DO care about the issue didn't need to use a heavily branded marketing scheme from a multi-billion dollar corporation to talk about it.Adoochi wrote: ↑Fri Jan 29, 2021 5:15 am I've never been a fan of those filters that people put on their facebook profile pics to show their "support", I just never knew how to word it. bell does it purely for the exposure. companies like that don't give a shit about anyone, they only appear to because it's good press. the amount that they donate is fucking miniscule compared to the amount of money they make overall; i'm not saying they need to dump 50% of their profits but if it's so important why not donate more than 0.45% of revenue? (i got that number from here idk how true it is, but i believe it)
*also noted on that post, donating that money provides them with a pretty large tax reduction for their "charitable" donation.
god it makes me so mad for so many reasons. mostly the sleazy corporate side, but also its annoying to see so many people just eat it all up because it's disguised as a good cause. i'm glad they donate anything at all, and i'm glad it does get people talking, but fuck it's so greasy to me that they blatantly capitalize off something like this with no shame.
mental health is important as fuck but we don't need bell to talk about it
